Natural gas and electricity prices continue to rise and it has heightened the awareness of energy consumption in manufacturing processes. Industries are now searching for increased efficiencies and possibilities for waste heat recovery. In these industrial processes requiring air pollution abatement, thermal oxidizers are commonly found. These necessary oxidizers consume considerable energy to breakdown VOC’s with combustion chamber temperatures upwards of 1500°F.

The exhaust streams from these oxidizers eventually are emitted to atmosphere. Even the most thermally efficient oxidizer, the Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO), will still exhaust an air stream at about 350° – 400°F. These waste heat streams are a source of energy to be recovered. One can use the energy to preheat boiler feedwater, to create chilled water for a manufacturing process or air conditioning, or even use the energy to supplement plant air heating requirements. The value of the recovered energy is significant. Paybacks for these engineered projects range from 6 months to 30 months.

Besides addressing oxidizer exhaust streams, one can optimize burner setups, fine tune air / gas ratios, or even use preheated combustion air. These steps improve the efficiencies of the system and lower overall energy requirements. System Performance Studies

Pollution System Solutions offers professional services to provide a comprehensive analysis of your current system performance and to identify the areas of your system which are negatively impacting overall operating efficiency. Some of the many areas that we are capable of evaluating include:

  • Control Loops
  • Fan Efficiency
  • Process Variables
  • Damper Sequence
  • Pressure Drops
  • Destruction Efficiency
  • Thermal Efficiency
  • Volumetric and Load Capacity
  • Burner Knox Reduction & Performance

Following our evaluation, we can quickly implement an engineered solution to address system deficiencies.
